Details: The Vandal is the playwriting debut of acclaimed actor Hamish Linklater. It tells a twisty, mysterious tale where things are not quite what they seem. Set on a freezing night at a bus stop in Kingston, New York, a woman’s chance encounter with a teenage boy spirals in unexpected directions. Directed by Jim Simpson, a founder of The Flea theater, the cast includes Deirdre O’Connell (Woman), Zach Grenier (Man) and Noah Robbins (Boy). The NY Daily News gushed, “under the direction of Jim Simpson, the actors deliver terrific performances, especially O’Connell, who oozes lived-in believability at every moment.” Backstage.com opened its review with a bow to the playwright, saying, “Linklater’s gifts for characterization and naturalistic dialogue are immediately apparent.” Theatermania.com compliments the new playwright by wondering if he’s been “sitting around campfires or hanging out with that master storyteller Conor McPherson.”
