After a successful premiere last year, the "Verein zur Förderung der Klassischen Musik e.V." awards the OPUS KLASSIK for the second time on October 13 to outstanding artists of the year, including international classical stars and young musicians. Thomas Gottschalk presents the ceremonial gala from the Konzerthaus Berlin, which will be broadcast on ZDF from 10:15 pm onwards. It plays the Konzerthausorchester Berlin under the direction of its new chief conductor Christoph Eschenbach.

Among the award winners who appear in the ZDF program and personally receive their award include acclaimed instrumentalists such as cellist Sol Gabetta, pianist Igor Levit and clarinetist Andreas Ottensamer.

Baritone Christian Gerhaher will be honored as "Singer of the Year" for the first album of his planned complete recording of all Schumann songs.

The prize for "Audiovisual Music Production" goes to Barry Kosky's Bayreuth staging of the "Meistersinger von Nürnberg". On behalf of the entire ensemble, tenor Klaus Florian Vogt receives the OPUS KLASSIK.

In the category "Klassik ohne Grenzen" Anneleen Lenaerts gets an OPUS CLASSIC.
The solo harpist of the Vienna Philharmonic will thrill you with her interpretations of the music Nino Rotas and with the theme from "Der Pate" will give a classic of film music.

That the OPUS KLASSIK the promotion of young musical talent is a special concern, this is u.a. the award for soprano Nadine Sierra in vocals.
On her debut album she explores the diverse repertoire of American operas and songs and sings of integration and hope. Matching her performance at the Konzerthaus with "Somewhere" from Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story".

Virtuosic sounds on the harmonica during a classical gala? The audiences of the OPUS KLASSIK can look forward to this year as well, because Konstantin Reinfeld will be honoring another up-and-coming artist who has dedicated himself to classical music on his instrument, the harmonica, alongside jazz and film music.

Other award winners and new OPUS categories, such as the "Video Clip of the Year" award or the "Innovative Concert of the Year", will be presented with filmic actors on the show.

Classical stars are just as excellent as young musicians. The cast includes Sol Gabetta, Igor Levit, Nadine Sierra and Andreas Ottensamer. The Konzerthausorchester Berlin plays under the direction of its new chief conductor Christoph Eschenbach.
